Story 2

The "other" life

As you stepped out of the doctor’s office, a wave of concern washed over you. High blood pressure, prediabetes, and a family history that loomed like a dark cloud—your father’s heart attack at just 55 years old echoed in your mind. The weight you’d gained over the past decade felt like an anchor, stubborn and unyielding.

It had been one of those chaotic days: rushing to the appointment after dropping off your daughter, nearly skidding off the road in the process. The stress was palpable, your blood pressure was high, but now it was time to take control.

You decided to give Preventiononly a shot, an app that promised to be your ally in this battle for better health. Armed with your existing Apple Watch, a sleek new scale, and a BP monitor, you synced everything to the app, ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.

After answering a few health-related questions, you began recording your blood pressure at home. Though still elevated, it was an improvement over that daunting doctor’s visit. The app’s friendly chatbot quickly became your guide, suggesting a daily 30-minute walk and asking you to take screenshots of your meals.

The first five days felt exhilarating. One step at a time, you learned what you were missing-about reducing saturated fats and boosting fiber intake—beans and veggies became your new best friends. The bot reminded you that these foods were packed with antioxidants, fighting inflammation and aging. But by days six and seven, the motivation wavered. It was hump day, after all, and you craved a little indulgence.

Determined to get back on track, you returned to the app on day eight, but found yourself feeling a bit uninspired. The chatbot sensed your struggle and asked about your favorite sports. Suddenly, a lightbulb went off: it had been ages since you played tennis with your friend. You picked up the phone and rekindled that connection, scheduling tennis matches twice a week.

Fast forward to week four, and everything was falling into place. You felt more energetic, the stress began to melt away, and while the scale hadn’t budged much, your blood pressure had dipped by five points. But then the app pinged with a reality check: you’d averaged only 6.5 hours of sleep over the past month. It was a wake-up call; insufficient sleep could sabotage your progress.

Three months later, a sense of triumph surged through you. You had lost seven pounds and felt revitalized. It was time to get your blood work done. Instead of the traditional lab, you opted for the one in your nearest CVS—quick, efficient, cheaper and hassle-free. In just five minutes, you were done, with results to follow in a week.

As you awaited your results, you couldn’t shake the feeling that the doctor’s office was a whirlwind of disorganization. When your blood work  arrived by mail, you were ecstatic to see the numbers lined up against your previous tests when you merely took a screenshot of it with your app. Your bad cholesterol had plummeted by an impressive 30%!

With your six-month health summary in hand—detailing daily steps, weight fluctuations, blood pressure averages, and dietary changes—you felt a sense of accomplishment. You walked into the doctor’s office, PDF in hand, ready to share your progress. His approval was palpable as he encouraged you to keep going, reminding you to come back in a year.

You left that office not just with a sense of relief, but with a renewed commitment to your health—a journey you had embarked upon, armed with knowledge, determination, and the unwavering support of your app. The road ahead was still long, but you were ready to conquer it one step at a time.
